3 poems, a bridge

HEAVEN AND EARTH
Your love pulls down
My centre of gravity
Its weight binds me
To the earth.

My eyes reach up
To Sun and Moon and Stars
Beckoning with a promise
Of God’s love.

My heart soars high
Even as my body
Clings restlessly
To familiar ground.

Shall I choose Heaven
And God’s embrace?
Or the earthly pleasures
Of your flesh?

Is Hell the opposite
Of Heaven
Or are you?

MY FLESH REMEMBERS
My flesh remembers
The fevered question of you kisses
Tracing the current of my response
From tips of breast
To quivering loins
And lower still.

My flesh remembers
The brush of curly hair
Against the smoothness
Of my skin
Rough and soft
Opposites attract.

My flesh remembers
The heady scent of you
Citrus, geranium and sweat
When I tremble
At your touch
You sigh.

My flesh remembers
Long after my mind
In self-protection, banishes
The memories
That burn
My soul.

My flesh remembers…

GOD’S LOVE, NOT YOURS
Words don’t leave your lips
Your fingers sigh
Your kisses sing
Love, for you
Is a physical thing.

Your eyes meet mine
Yours close
Mine don’t
If I look away
I know you won’t.

Our hearts are beating fast, it’s true
To be alive is to be with you
And yet, today, our love must die
That I may walk by Jesus’ side.

The truth is finally clear to me
It’s only now that I can see
God, in His Heaven above
Demands obedience, rewards with love.

My time on earth will end one day
The Bible teaches me God’s way
And guides me to the very end
In ways I cannot comprehend.

Your love’s a distant memory
But if, one day, your face I see
Will God be there with us as well?
Or did I fall and go to Hell?

Note: 3 poems I wrote in early 2000 as I transitioned from a temporary affair with a man of flesh and blood to the permanent relationship I am forever committed to with Jesus Christ.
