Every 4-5 years, I get sick. Very sick. Like, a week in bed sick. And last week was ‘it’. I missed 2.5 days of work then spent most of a 4-day weekend lying around the house. Who was it that said, the only good thing about being sick is watching a lot of TV? Well, that was what I did. Not just TV but movies and shows on DVD. I have an extensive collection.
The weather was predictable – cold, windy, snowy – and I ventured out to Walmart on February 14th . No, not to buy a Valentine’s Day gift (though I did buy a pretty shiny red planter to give to my Mom). What I needed – desperately – was cough syrup and saline nasal spray.
On Saturday the 15th, I went to my parents’ house for dinner. It was a special occasion, but not my story to tell. It was a very pleasant evening – much to everyone’s relief and slight surprise – but I was happy to be home by 10 PM.
I came to work Tuesday (yesterday) – though I’m still coughing like a 20-year pack-a-day smoker (which I never was, but I do a great impersonation when I’m sick!) Of course, we had another snow storm and it took me almost 2 hours to get to the office. But I’m a trooper. Besides, the boss was back from 2 weeks in Florida, then off to Vancouver on business for the next two days. We had a lot of catch-up to play!
Today, after lunch, I went out for a walk. It was a balmy 6 degrees (Celcius), roughly 52-53 Fahrenheit. It was very pleasant, though quite slushy and wet. Mind you, I was happy to have my ‘ears’ on, as there was a cool breeze – and my ears, neck, feet and hands have to be covered or I pick up a chill. But it sure felt great to be outside – walking and moving!
After work today, I’m going for my three-week chiropractic adjustment (she really cracks me up, my doctor – you knew that was coming, right?) Then, two more days of work – the best part is leaving the office at 5-ish and seeing daylight instead of darkness. Come on, Spring! We’re ready for you!
OK, back to work I go, hi ho, hi ho…
