Technology and I have a love-hate relationship. (Am I alone in this? I think not!)

We get along OK at work. In the office I sit at a computer all day, every day. I can whip up and professionally edit letters, memos, reports, articles.  I’m a whiz at PowerPoint – most of our client presentations are created there. It’s easy to combine text, images, charts and graphs, into one file – which can be printed and bound into booklets, or projected on screen, or PDF’d and emailed. I can even balance my chequebook using Excel. And I’m capable of organizing the work lives of six people using Outlook.

But…

What I’m not so good at is the myriad aspects of Technology that change more quickly than I can adapt.

I am always excited when I navigate into some helpful information or a good deal. For example, I recently was alerted to a special offer at GraphicStock.com: download as many images as you want within 7 days FOR FREE! So off I went… It was easy to do but very time-consuming looking at all the collections of images. Once I made my selections, copied and saved them, I thought – now what?

So I decided to experiment a bit, try some out here, see what you think.

  1. I’d say, amen, you got yourself a bargain. Some lovely images that you already have plans for and all free. Can’t beat that. 🙂

Thanks A-M 🙂 The site obviously wants to upsell memberships, but it’s a generous way to reach people. Hope all is well with you as another school year begins…

      • Very busy but only to be expected at the start and I love it so that’s a huge bonus. 🙂

I admire you for doing 2 of the most important jobs in this life – mother and teacher – and doing them with passion and creativity and joy. Your family and your students are truly blessed. Have fun this year…

      • Thank you so much, Vera. I’m really lucky to be doing something I love doing. And motherhood’s not bad either! 😉 Now if I could just find all the time I need to fit everything in I’d be laughing. 🙂 I hope you’ve managed to sort your diary out too with the load you have on. We’ll get there, I guess. Have a great week.x

I think you are a very versatile person Anne-Marie. To wit, your gossamer transcendence from prose to poetry – I admire it though I confess to being lazy and not delving well into the intricacies of free verse. Chacun a son gout – God made us unique and we need to find the right way to shine. I’m adopting the 80/20 approach – spending 80% of the time on the 20% of things I do best. And taking in one day at a time. L’chaim!

Oh, what a lovely post! These selections are great, Vera. I can imagine so many uses for them. I particularly love the one of the forest — wish I were there, too. Great for meditational and devotional inspiration. I also love the mature woman with the cup of coffee. I so identify with her! (Wish I had her sense of calm). I envy you your adeptness with Excel and PowerPoint. I have never cared for working with the former and have no experience at all with the latter. I hope I am never called upon to create in it! But, honestly, Vera, digital point and shoot cameras are so easy these days, and affordable, you could take pictures like this yourself (and have!). 😀

Thanks Beth 🙂 We’re all good at something. One reason I got my job here (10 years ago!) was my facility with PowerPoint. Excel is a challenge; I’m OK with the basics but have gotten stuck in loops of data and formatting that I could escape only by forcing a close out of the program. I’m old school; I may not know the ‘right’ way to do stuff but I can usually accomplish what I need to 🙂
Happy weekend – hoping it’s a bit quieter for you these days…

Only temporarily. I have an out of town wedding upcoming and that always throws the household into chaos. We will prevail. Like you, I manage to get the job done, somehow, just stumbling forward (hopefully, forward!). 😀
